Plenipotentiary of the President Took Part in Thanksgiving Service in St. Cathrine’s Church

On February 2nd the Head of the Russian and Novo-Nakhichevan diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Ezras held a Te Deum service in Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Catherine in St. Petersburg. Alexander Beglov, Plenipotentiary of the President in the Northwestern Federal District, was present there.

Amongst honorary guests were Hrayr Karapetyan, Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Saint Petersburg, members of the Church Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church in St. Petersburg, Grachya Pogosyan, a public person, and representatives of the Armenian community in St. Petersburg.

Welcoming Alexander Beglov the Bishop conveyed blessing and best wishes of Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians His Holiness Garegin II. He thanked Alexander Dmitrievich for his assistance and great contribution to the return of two churches and a part of church houses in Nevsky Avenue to the Armenian community in St. Petersburg.

In his remarks Plenipotentiary of the President stressed the crucial role of Russian-Armenian friendship throughout the course of history of our countries and the establishment of new Russia, having expressed his hope for continued collaboration between our fraternal people.

Then Archbishop Ezras in concelebration with Sarkis Chopuryan, Efrem Zargaryan and Arshak Nazaryan held a Te Deum service. 

After the service Alexander Beglov met the members of the Church Counsil of Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian community of St. Petersburg in the residence of the leader of Diocese. The meeting was headed by Archbishop Ezras.

Ezras spoke about the action and further plans of the Armenian community at that meeting.

The problems of multiculturalism, ethical and political education, tolerance, interaction between the authorities and the society, the role of Church in fostering a new generation were discussed.

Grachya Pogosyan presented Alexander Beglov with a book, published with his financial support – ‘Marshalls, Generals, Admirals of Armenian origin in St. Petersburg’ by Armen Meruzhanyan. He also thanked Plenipotentiary of the President for the support of his activity, as Alexander Beglov even being deputy head of Administration of the President of the Russian Federation noticed his selfless work. In his turn, Alexander Beglov expressed gratitude to the philanthropist for the monument ‘To the Fortitude of Leningraders’ that was unveiled on January 26th. He stressed that such projects should be highly commended.
