All charity work by Grachya Pogosyan started to be implemented by a specially established Grachya M. Pogosyan Charitable Foundation in September 2017.

The decision was taken after some members of Saint-Petersburg’s society “Survivors of the Siege of Leningrad” addressed the patron with a request to fund the project for the erection of the monument “To the fortitude of Leningraders who defended the city” on Square of Fortitude (Ploshchady Muzhestva).

By law, an individual shall not fund this kind of projects. So it was decided to create a charitable foundation.

From now on, all projects that Grachya Pogosyan agrees to participate in will be implemented by this foundation.

Grachya Misakovich Pogosyan is a philanthropist and public figure of St. Petersburg. Since the end of the 90s he has actively supported veterans’ organizations and societies of survivors of the Siege of Leningrad in Kirovsk district of Leningrad region and St. Petersburg.

It was he who helped the elderly, veterans with foodstuff, organized meetings, and rest in health resorts, and trips to the places of the fighting glory during difficult transition period of perestroika. Today he continues supporting veterans’ organizations as well. For his reverential attitude to veterans and survivors of the Siege of Leningrad Grachya Pogosyan was honored to become an honorary member of St. Petersburg’s public society “Survivors of the Siege of Leningrad”, district society of the survivors of the Siege of Leningrad in Kirovsk, Leningrad region; an honorary member of the veterans and soldiership of fellow soldiers from St. Petersburg and Leningrad region Administration. In 2015 he was awarded the title “Citizen of Honour of Kirovsk district, Leningrad region”.

At that particular time the need to commemorate the events and heroes of the Great Patriotic War awoke in him. For all these year at the initiative and expense of Grachya Pogosyan more than 90 sites of cultural, spiritual and historical heritage have been installed. Among them there are new and reconstructed monuments, busts and memorial plates of famous and forgotten heroes of remarkable and tragic events of the past epochs. 24 monuments out of them are devoted to the events and the people of World War II (8 monuments are erected in Leningrad region). Dozens of books and magazines as well as films on different topics have been released.

At his initiative and expense more than 90 sites of cultural, spiritual and historical heritage have been installed (restored, reconstructed). He took part in funding the 1st Channel TV programmes, such as “Under Victory Banner”, “Be the First” and “The first one in the army”; funded the fifth “MIR Award” of the All-Russia Youth Social Organization MIR (Youth, Initiative, Development) in St. Petersburg. He sponsored Hayastan All Armenian Fund (Erevan, Armenia); the Club of Military Commanders of the Russian Federation. He patronized Old Ladoga St. Nicolas monastery and some charitable projects of Association of NGOs “Bolshaya Medveditsa”.

For his work Grachya Pogosyan has been honored with a lot of ministerial, public and church awards. Among them there is the Order of St. Gregory the Illuminator (the most significant award of the Armenian Apostolic Church), the “Movses Khorenatsi” Medal for his great contributions to the strengthening of the brotherly relations that link Armenian people to Russian people, the Order of the Russian Orthodox Church “Glory and Honour”, III grade, the Order of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky “For Merit and Great Personal Contribution to the Development of the Russian State”, II grade, the breastplate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, RF, “For Cooperation”, the “Marshall Baghramyan” Medal of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, the “Sparapet Vazgen Sargsyan” Medal of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, “For faith and Homeland” Medal, I grade and so on.
